Encouraged Family Outside Reading
Each Arete family is encouraged to purchase one shared family copy of The God Proofs: How Science Points to YOUR Creator by Douglas Ell. This is outside reading, not a class-specific text, and it may or may not be referred to in class.

Honors Chemistry (AP Prep)
A rigorous honors chemistry tutorial designed to build conceptual fluency, quantitative reasoning, laboratory practice, and preparation for AP-level study.

Students build fluency with chemical concepts, quantitative problem solving, disciplined laboratory practice, and advanced scientific study. The course uses a weekly two-hour tutorial, substantial home study, and separately scheduled in-person laboratory sessions. The tutorial is designed as a bridge into AP-level chemistry work.
The weekly tutorial and laboratory times will be selected around the schedules of the enrolled students and instructor. Scale How School will also employ an additional chemistry tutor with AP Chemistry experience to assist during scheduled study-hall sessions for difficult problem sets, calculations, and course review.
What Students Will Do

Textbook Edition
Students will use the second edition of Chemistry for Accelerated Students. The instructor will use the third-edition e-book as a teacher reference and will provide any necessary supplemental instruction; families are not required to purchase the third edition.
Required Materials
- A sturdy binder and a commonplace journal
- Chemistry for Accelerated Students, 2nd edition
- The Student Lab Report Handbook by John D. Mays
- A standard lab journal with quad ruling, lined quiz-review cards on a ring, and the additional supplies listed in the final syllabus

Science Project Resources
When students complete an assigned science project, they may use Science Buddies and Science Fair Adventure to help choose an appropriate project.
Tuition & Materials
Annual tuition is $430 plus a $50 materials fee, for a total of $480—approximately $13.33 per week across the 36-week program. Children of Arete teachers receive a $50 tuition discount per enrolled student, making the annual total $430, or approximately $11.94 per week, including the materials fee. Scale How School is a nonprofit; tuition supports teacher compensation and the materials fee pays for course materials.
Location & Enrollment
The weekly tutorial and separately scheduled in-person laboratory sessions meet in South Kaysville, Utah. Exact days and times will be finalized with enrolled families. Enrollment is selective and limited to seven students.
