Encouraged Family Outside Reading
Each Arete family is encouraged to purchase one shared family copy of The God Proofs: How Science Points to YOUR Creator by Douglas Ell. This is outside reading, not a class-specific text, and it may or may not be referred to in class.

Honors Introduction to Physics and Chemistry (ASPC)
A challenging introductory physics and chemistry course built for deep mastery, quantitative reasoning, precise laboratory work, and resistance to scientific deception.
Prerequisite: A secure pre-algebra foundation and basic algebra readiness

Students study the nature of scientific knowledge, motion, Newton’s laws, variation and proportion, energy, heat and temperature, waves, sound, light, electricity, circuits, fields, magnetism, substances, atomic models, bonding, and chemical reactions.
Students learn fewer topics more deeply through discussion, demanding problem assignments, experiments, and lab-report writing. The regular tutorial remains Mondays from 1:00–3:00 p.m. Laboratory work meets in person on a separate day arranged around the enrolled students’ schedules. Online problem-solving through Moodle may be scheduled as needed for difficult problem sets and calculation practice. Ongoing study includes RRC, Chapter Exercises, Anki, and Moodle.
What Students Will Do
- Write complete lab reports
- Solve quantitative physics and chemistry problems
- Attend carefully to measurements and experimental detail
- Attend separately scheduled laboratory sessions
- Participate in online problem-solving through Moodle when scheduled
- Practice discussion, recall, presentation, and scientific argument

Tuition & Materials
Annual tuition is $430 plus a $50 materials fee, for a total of $480—approximately $13.33 per week across the 36-week program. Children of Arete teachers receive a $50 tuition discount per enrolled student, making the annual total $430, or approximately $11.94 per week, including the materials fee. Scale How School is a nonprofit; tuition supports teacher compensation and the materials fee pays for course materials.
Location & Enrollment
This class meets in South Kaysville, Utah. Enrollment is selective and limited to seven students.
